Based on pupil, parent/carer and teacher feedback it has been identified we need to further improve our reading provision (reading scheme from Early-Third level) as well as our library provision. The online reading scheme would allow more children to access books at one time (we wouldn't be limited by number of books). Online reading would provide us with new up to date titles which can be accessed at home and in school. There is also an audio feature which means children could access books independently and feel confident and supported while reading. Research highlights the benefits of children being exposed to audio from an early age.
Our school and nursery library requires more books that promote positive mental wellbeing and managing emotions. We would also benefit from books that tackle gender bias so children know that anyone, male or female can do any job! The books in the library would be used in class/nursery as well as some going home as part of our "shared reader" approach.
How can you support The Dunnikier Fundraising Group?
If you know a child at Dunnikier Primary who's taking part in the "The Great Dunnikier Mount Everest' challenge you can make a donation to sponsor their efforts, show support and help them along the way via Rocketfund.
What is 'The Great Dunnikier Mount Everest' challenge?
Mount Everest is the tallest mountain in the world, standing 29,032 feet above sea level. It takes approximately 40 days to climb in order for the body to adjust to the altitude.
We are doing a virtual expedition of Mount Everest, don’t worry you don’t need to do any climbing!
We have made a list of some fun activities for you and your families to do during the holidays and each activity counts towards your climb (these activities will be issued by e-mail to all pupils by the end of this week).
For each activity, (you do not need to do every one, and you can do them more than once if you want), enter a time* 10mins, 30mins, 1hour etc. In total you need 20 hours to complete the virtual challenge.
If you want your child to receive a memento of this challenge we ask parents to record the number of tasks and the time taken (again we will provide you with a template) and when we return to school, the school fundraising group will ask you to submit your evidence.
Please also note that you can still donate without completing The Mount Everest challenge.
Lets come together as a community and further improve our experiences we offer for our children.
A big thank you from the Dunnikier Fundraising Group.
NB - 3% of every donation is required for card handling fees
