New stretch target

Buy all 50 of the Chromebooks and bridge the gap between the digital haves and have nots.

1611319939_hollydale.jpgHollydale Primary School is a lively, friendly and inclusive school. During COVID-19 children are learning from home using Google Classroom.

Our teachers are working hard to provide the same quality of learning our pupils experience at school but there are many families who do not have the laptops or tablets required to make this work for their children. We strongly feel that it's important for us to provide equal opportunities for all pupils, irrespective of their backgrounds, and we feel this project will change the life chances of many, many pupils. This pandemic has brought to the forefront the hidden issues of digital poverty that is currently being highlighted across many school communities.

To address this we want to buy 50 Google Chromebooks for these disenfranchised children to use. Chromebooks are £200 laptops optimised for online working and learning.

Southwark Council have pledged to provide all children with the required data allowance for the Chromebooks to access the Internet via a tethered mobile phone.

We have taken the decision to buy new hardware as it ensures a secure, fit for purpose platform for learning. We have chosen this over refurbished or recycled hardware as such machines do not have comparable warranties and the variety of types of hardware adds to support costs so increasing the total cost of ownership.

Post Covid the Chromebooks will remain the property of the allocated pupils at the school as an essential learning resource. Google Classroom will continue to be used for home work and the Chromebooks will play an essential part in bridiging the digital divide throughout our pupils time at Hollydale and beyond. Making a donation will in essence be an investment in this generations' education, their future and their potential careers.

Our initial goal is to raise £1000 to pay for five Chromebooks but we don't want to stop there. Our stretch goal is to raise £10,000 to buy 50 Chromebooks and bridge the gap between the digital haves and the digital have nots.
