We are a large primary school located in Norris Green, a deprived area in Liverpool. We have over 600 children within our school, with three classes per year from Nursery to Year 6.
We are fortunate enough to have a large computer suite comprising of over 30 desktop computers within our school, however, although the computers were good when purchased, they are now out-dated, slow and are no longer fit-for-purpose.
We aim to provide a state-of-the-art computer suite for our incredible children, to give them the best start in this ever-changing technological world.
At Monksdown, we have a dedicated team of Digital Leaders who have identified the need for improved computer facilities throughout the school so that all children can access a broad and empowering computing curriculum with cutting-edge hardware. This is vital for our school in order that the children will leave us with an up-to-date knowledge base to prepare them for the challenges of our technological world. We aim to ensure that children at Monksdown receive the best that we can provide. Currently, our computer suite is limiting the children’s achievement due to the age of the hardware and the time that is taken for the computers to process information.
If we are successful in raising enough money to replace all of the computers within our suite, the children across the whole school will benefit. Children from the ages of 3 to 11 will have access to the most up-to-date facilities in the area and will leave Monksdown in the best position to continue their education at the next level. We have an engaging computing curriculum which at the moment is being limited by the hardware facilities that we have. The improvements in facilities would not only benefit the computing curriculum within the school, it would also mean that the children could become familiar with cross-curricular use of computer facilities, again suitably preparing them for later life.
As well as the children, we would like our facilities to benefit the local community. We would look to open our computer suite to the general public of the local area to ensure that everyone has the chance to access a computer and the internet.
