The Leading Learning Trust is a charity that exists in order to advance education, for public benefit. We formed in 2016, and in 2018, we became the first school in the borough of Newham, and one of the first in London, to move to cloud-based computing. We have a team of expert IT staff, led by our IT Director, who use their expertise to support another primary school outside the Trust.
This team formulates and delivers our Digital Strategy, ensuring that our teaching and learning is enhanced, and that our children and staff are engaged digital learners, who use their skills beyond the classroom. This means that your donation will be used to procure devices which will be rapidly and effectively deployed and supported - they won't sit idle in school cupboards!
When the Covid-19 pandemic struck, the Leading Learning Trust, which consists of Portway Primary School and Selwyn Primary School in Newham (both recently judged as 'Outstanding' by Ofsted across all categories), were able to rapidly transition to an online offer for our pupils. We were able to do this as the use of Google's educational application platform, Google Workspace was already part and parcel of the way we work at our schools.
A large number of our children had been issued with digital devices to use at home during the pandemic, however, it was clear that there was a large digital divide within our school community and our schools faced a huge challenge to ensure as many children received some remote learning experience. Despite these obstacles and insufficient help from the DfE, we saw a very positive impact from remote learning. As a Trust, we were able to ensure that very little learning was lost whilst schools were closed, but the biggest positive was that our staff and children thrived! They grew more and more confident with the use of EdTech and acquired key digital skills for the 21st century.
We are committed to continuing to enhance our use of technology to augment the work of our skilled teachers. Riding on the wave of this experience, we have aimed high in our ambitious digital strategy, to deliver a Chromebook to as many children as possible at our schools with a vision of 1:1 provision for every child in the future.
